Project Objective
The disposal of a portion of land Erven 255-302 for development of affordable rental houses at Impendle Town. This may be through Restructuring program of the Department of Human Settlements or own funding.
Background and discussion
Rental housing comes in many forms in both the formal and informal sectors. Some people live their whole lives in rental housing either by choice or because there are no other options. For others, rental accommodation is an alternative they use for a particular period in their lives for a range of different reasons. It is an important housing tenure option. The Impendle Municipality has recognized this and is supporting the development of rental opportunities that can extend the housing choices available to low- and medium-income households.
The Municipality has resolved to dispose a portion of Erven 255-302 for development of affordable rental/social housing. These will be divided into 2 categories, the first allocation will be for Social Housing Development (Residential Rental Stock) while the second allocation will be for private developers who wants to invest in rental flats. All suitable, accredited and qualifying service providers and social housing institutions are invited to submit their proposals to the municipality for consideration.
Property Information
The land in question is approximately nine (9ha) hectares in extent, however, subject to minor surveying alterations. It is located along P130 Road, north-west of the Impendle Town. This portion is currently zoned for residential and it requires engineering services- as it is a virgin land, with no roads, water, electricity supply etc. there is an existing layout which may be amended to suit the proposed development.

In order to have a transparent selection process that will allow equal opportunity for all, Impendle Local Municipality will adhere to its Supply Chain Management and Land Disposal policies. Proposals will be evaluated in terms of the following criteria:
